REACH Mn Consortium Goals:

Whether you are active in Europe now, or have an interest to be present in the future, REACH will become a key element of your overall market strategy.

The REACH Mn Consortium was formed in January 2008 after considerable effort and input from its founding members. As a voluntary consortium an open invitation to join is extended to all organisations involved in the manganese industry worldwide.

Our Objectives:

With the active involvement of its membership, the REACH Mn Consortium aims to:

  1. Evaluate existing data for relevant substancesSubstances which occur in nature: means a naturally occurring substance as such, unprocessed or processed only by manual, mechanical or gravitational means, by dissolution in water, by flotation, by extraction with water, by steam distillation or by heating solely to remove water, or which is extracted from air by any means; and highlight data gaps.
  2. Jointly agree and initiate any necessary testing programmes.
  3. Promote and manage the sharing of technical resources and knowledge.
  4. Support its members with knowledge and training on REACH and GHSGlobally Harmonised System (GHS)
  5. Secure access to laboratory capacity and regulatory skills through agreements with contract testing service providers.
  6. Have the registration dossier ready for submission before the end of November 2010.
  7. Support the nominated lead registrantRegistrant: means the manufacturer or the importer of a substance or the producer or importer of an article submitting a registration for a substance;(s) for the relevant substances to submit the full registration dossier.
  8. Manage and co-ordinate the whole process in a structured and cost effective way to ensure each member fulfils their REACH obligations on time.

Compliance with REACH entails considerable responsibilities, liabilities and costs. Any individual organisation is unlikely to have the resources to fulfil all its REACH obligations in time by ‘going it alone’. Instead, REACH encourages collaboration between those importers and manufacturers of the same substance in order to meet their individual REACH responsibilities in a timely, efficient and cost effective way. The formation of a voluntary consortium to focus on this joint goal is an effective forum by which this co-operation can be achieved.
