Pre-registration – your first, vital step.

Pre-registration is a critical step for those EU organisations who wish to continue their business uninterrupted from December 2008.  Pre-registration runs from 1 June 2008 to 1 December 2008

The phase-in timetable for Registration (up to June 2018 depending on your annual tonnage) will only apply to existing substances that you have pre-registered with ECHA. If you fail to pre-register a substance you will need to suspend your EU activities in that substance from December 2008 until a full registration dossier has been submitted. If you continue to manufacture or import a substance that you have not pre-registered (even though others may have done so) you will be in breach of the REACH Regulation and be subject to Member State enforcement action.

Pre-registration is effectively a postponement of full Registration. Following pre-registration a SIEF will be formed for each substance in order to co-operate in its substance data sharing aims during the phase-in period.
